This past winter and spring about 3 weeks after Evie was born we lost Grandma Sommer. This was Andy's grandmother and she was 93. I remember her as such a strong woman. She was a mother of 7 amazing kids....one set of twins in the mix...(Andy's dad is one of them:)

One of my most favorite memories of her was when Andy and I had been dating for over a year and she asked him "so....when's the next wedding?" (I of course was wondering when he'd be proposing too) She loved getting to see so many of her 19 grandchildren get married over the years. Here is one of my favorite pictures of her. (I didn't take it :( It's from my sis-in-law's wedding a few years ago.

Here is the amazing family she leaves behind. (The Sommer family are some of the most genuine people I know and I'm so happy to be part of this family)

About one week before we lost Grandma Sommer, my Grandma Shirley went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with acute lukemia. In true Grandma Shirley form...she put up a really good fight for about six weeks.and beat the lukemia....the only problem was that her white blood cells never came back. I think selfishly I thought she'd always be with us partly because her mother lived to be 100. My uncle called me (after her condition worsened) to remind me that Evie completed the circle of life with grandma...and trying to keep that mindset has helped with the pain of loosing her. I have so many amazing and warm memories of her. She was 87 and very dear to my heart.

So I know you've all been wanting more pictures of my sweet baby girl! So I finally made a slide show of some of my favorite images of her first three months! (the music is actually from Andy's collage band "Nimbus" and he's playing the lead guitar)

I can't believe our little angel is already 3 1/2 months old! Oh how the time flies. I love her many different expressions. Looking back at all these images she has changed so much! (she was only in the 15th percentile of weight when she was born....and at her 3 month appointment she was now in the 90th....guess I'm feeding her a little to well :)

She really is such a good baby and we feel so blessed to have her in our lives. She actually just rolled over for the first time yesterday! I will be sure to keep you posted more often with pictures of her. Hope you enjoy the show :)

Well with having Evie, life and running my business.....my poor little blog has been SO neglected. I'm trying very hard to blog blog blog for the next few weeks. We'll see how I do. Above is an image of Evie....that I like to title "OOPS" She is only about a week and a half old here and poor Andy was trying to hold her in his hands (to show how little she is) and this accident happened. (BTW...that's not number 1....lol)

I've gone to many photography conventions over the years and have heard lots of wonderful photographers speak. One of those being Angela Carson. I enjoyed listening to Angela speak so much...that when I had the opportunity to see her speak a second time....I couldn't resist. Her sense of humor and passion for photography are just irresistible. So I found out via facebook that she was in need of a two week old newborn for a photography project ...when Evie was two weeks old....I got really excited! More exciting was that Andy agreed to make the 3 1/2 hour drive up to Angela's BEAUTIFUL studio in Northville Michigan. Angela is photographing a newborn a week and is then going to make a book to sell AND all the proceeds go to charity...ISN'T THAT AWESOME!!!! You can learn more about it here. It was such a great experience to be on the other side of the lens (I've so enjoyed taking pictures of Evie....I know...I'll be posting more soon) but just being able to be mom and have such a talented photographer I trust to take amazing shots of my baby....was priceless. THANK YOU AGAIN Angela and Rose for such an amazing experience! Here are just a few of the shots she took. I can't believe that's my sweet baby girl!!!! Our first week

We arrived at the hospital around 2pm on Thursday Jan 7th. (here I was paranoid I may not actually be in labor and that was the snowiest day we have had this year) Her due date was Jan 16th, but once we got checked in...sure enough we were gonna have a baby. It was an amazing experience and we were blessed with no complications. Here she is minutes after being born getting measured:

yes yes yes....... Genevieve Signa Sommer was born January 7, 2010 at 10:38pm. She's just the sweetest little peanut who weighed 6 lbs and 12 ounces and is 20 inches long. We call her Evie! So yes...my blog has been so neglected with the holidays, trying to get final albums and orders for all my clients and the super tiredness of the end of pregnancy! So I hope to be featuring her on here quite a bit that we're home and I'm only two chores away from completely being on maternity leave. For clients out there, please just email or leave me a message (as I will check those and respond once a week) but will not be back to my normal working status for 4-6 weeks. Thank you for your understanding. I can't wait to take photos of her and share them all with you.

For now...here she is in the hospital only minutes old. I love her big beautiful eyes!!!!

Well you wouldn't be able to tell it in his wedding photos...I think his true happiness of the day just shows on his face :) (I love people in love) Now let's not leave Tzu out either......HELLO GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!! She's so stunning and I actually feel like this pictures don't quite do her full justice. Her hair and makeup were done by my talented friend MANDY! Good Morning! Okay....I know Halloween was yesterday....and even though we had an extra hour....I still didn't manage to get this post up in time! I was planning on posting our Halloween costumes over the past few years. Most years.....Andy and I go as some sort of couple if we can. (we always have a fun time coming up with the costumes...trying to find them at a thrift store, using something old or what we usually do is resort to my mom....a very talented seamstress :) Some years our outfits are better than others and some are more scandalous or controversial than others...but hey..Halloween is the only time of year that you can act like that and get a way with it :)

So here they are:

2002:

(2003 we were on our honeymoon and did not dress up that year:)
2004: Definitely one of my faves....all of this was made by my mom...including homer's mask and my wig :)

2005: Totally last minute and a little cheesy, but I'm a huge margarita fan so I wanted to be a margarita fairy. (Andy was Ron Burgandy from the movie Anchorman (and I"m not posting a photo as he would shoot me...he wore a short....orange robe and I can understand him not wanting that posted on the internet :)

2006: We actually went as Cleopatra and a mummy (but the mummy was the next night and unfortunately we don't have any pictures :(

2007: Lois Lane and Clark Kent/Superman

2008: Another of my faves....Sarah Palin and John McCain

2009: We had to use the baby belly with our costume so I'm a cheerleader and he's my boyfriend..the quarterback!!!

But the BEST HALLOWEEN COSTUMES EVER go to my dear friends Mandy and Craig. They kept their costumes a secret from all of us friends....and when they walked out I immediately knew why. They punked us!!! They dressed up as Faye and Andy Sommer! I"m still laughing when I think about it. I was crying from laughing so hard when I first saw them! They got every detail perfect! Here they are:

Oh what another gorgeous wedding!!!! We lucked out again with the weather (go 2009!) for this one! Lauren and Steve are great and so was their wedding party. They were up for anything! We had a nice sized break between ceremony (Holy Angels) and reception (Mandalay) so Lauren had asked me where should we go for pictures??? I went out scouting and was discouraged not to find anything new and unique, but on my second scout it hit me......the Montgomery County Fair!!!!!! We had such a great time and the wedding party was treated like royalty! (apparently they have never had a bridal party stop by the fair before) It made for some really fun images!!! Well one of the items was an invitation (which I conveniently had one in my camera bag for photos) I had to give it to the ladies....sorry David...you are one of the nicest guys I've ever met, but us girls gotta stick together when it comes to house work!!!! LOL

That's right ya'll....I will be out of the office from Sunday August 16th till Sunday August 22nd. I will be without phone service and will return all your calls on Monday the 17th. I'm not sure about e-mail...so if I have access I will respond to you the best I can. We are headed to my favorite place in the US.....Norris Lake, TN!!! I can't wait to do a little swimming, relaxing, and maybe even some fishing!!! I will not be participating this year in one of my favorite events, HARD CORE TUBING! So to my brides to be who see the photo of me below (I'm the one on the left) no worries, I won't be flying through the air while on vacation!!! LOL That was shot years ago! As you all know...my personal blogs get put on the back burner when it's busy season. In June Andy and I FINALLY made the trip up to Chicago for a weekend to visit my dear friend Wade. (when I say finally....i'm referring to the fact that he's been living there for 10 years now, and this is the first trip we've managed to plan) Wade manages one of the taller buildings in downtown, so we took advantage of his per and went up on the rooftop at sunset. AMAZING! Luckily I planned and brought my camera. Thanks again Wade for being such an amazing host and tour guide. We had a blast and hope to make it up to visit again someday!!!

I love my family!!! This happens to be another one of the Conner cousins! (my mom's dad's side of the family) My mom is actually the oldest first cousin of her generation and Deke is the youngest! (although my mom looks young....she's not!!! LOL, totally kidding mom!!! There's like 30 some years difference between them) So technically Deke is my second cousin, but like all the other Conner clan, since I don't have any first cousins, they are all my cousins!!! Well this wedding was on the coolest day we had in July and we were all pleased with that. The beautiful chapel where the ceremony took place has NO AC...so for it to be 68 degrees out on a saturday in July was good luck :) Although the weather was perfect, a few things didn't go quite as planned (that happens at lots of weddings) I think Rebekah handled it with grace :) Aren't these two cute together! I know I know.....I say that a lot, but look at them! Thanks again you Rebekah and Dan!!! I wish you many fun days filled with happiness!!!

This session was so much fun! When Beth and I met to talk about her wedding I felt right at home. She has this wonderful laid back attitude and giggle that just makes you smile. Plus they are having a taco bar at their reception....how fun is that!!! I love it when couples do something a little unique that is totally them. We decided to include their adorable daughter in the photographs and I'm SO glad we did! Well it's taken me a little longer than expected to blog this wedding, but I"m hoping you'll agree it was worth the wait. This wedding was beautiful down to every last detail. I think the only thing that wasn't perfect was the weather (colder and raining for July) but that didn't matter as this event was all inside at one gorgeous location....The Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza (also known as the Hall of Mirrors) I must give credit to Sima Patel of Weddings in Style for the amazing decor of this wedding. My jaw drops every time I see one of her events. (she also did the Mehndi celebration below) I'd like to extend a very big thank you to both the bride and groom's families for making us feel so very welcome at these two wonderful events. I loved Gina's veil...

Gina has the most beautiful eyes...they almost look like they are made of silver and just shimmer, SO GORGEOUS!!!

So for the toast....Nick's nephews made them a drink of milk, water, ice, bread....and I think whatever else they could find. Nick being the good uncle he is....happily took a drink and "enjoyed" it!!! ;)

Well this little guy's newborn pictures we finally got to shoot. Poor little one had to go back into the hospital for surgery at two weeks and didn't get back home until he was four weeks old. Luckily the surgery went well and he's completely healthy now :)
And yes folks...this is his real hair!!! Isn't it beautiful :)

We traveled down to Lexington KY for this wedding and let me just say it was well worth the drive. This was our second time getting to experience downtown Lexington and I gotta tell you it's a great city! We were there for Brian and Kim's engagement session in October. Their reception was at the Aviation Museum of Kentucky and we loved it there! (after all Brian is a pilot so it was perfect) Congrats and best wishes to you two once again. You all know Taylor as she's on this blog quite a bit! Well she just turned three and we only had about 10 minutes to do her session and she worked it for the camera! (ok it took her 3 minutes to warm up...not to shabby) Her grandad restored this trike as it was her grandma's when she was a little girl! (I love that) Isn't it just as pretty as she is!

Well as you all know by now...my personal blogs get put on the back burner!!! We went to DC a couple months ago to visit some of our Aunt and Uncle Sommers! We hit the cherry blossoms at peak and they were beautiful. This was my first time at our nations capitol and I was amazed. I just can't get over how big it all is. DC is gorgeous during the day and at night. For those of you who follow me on facebook, you might remember me posting about trying to run from the capitol building to the Washington monument...while catching the light just after sunset. Well that's about 2 miles and I didn't have running shoes on...plus I was caring my camera. So needless to say...I didn't make it! But it sure makes for a funny memory or picture if your visioning me trying to make it in time. Hope you enjoy these!

I am so happy to have kicked off wedding season with this couple and their wonderful family and friends. We had great weather last Saturday even though the wind was a bit intense. We started at Katie's moms house where the girls got ready. We were worried about falling behind so the hair and makeup artists kicked it into high gear and at one point were both working on Katie. She sat there relaxed and calm. (or that's how she looked at least:) We then headed to the Manor House in Mason Ohio for the ceremony and reception. I hadn't been there in over 6 years and I'd forgotten how everywhere you turn there are great spots to photograph. The clouds had thickened by the time for the ceremony and a few of them even looked kinda dark. However, like out of a fairy tale right after the procession the sun peeked out. Katie and Matt thank you SO much for trusting me to capture the moments of your precious day. I'm so happy you two found each other and wish you a lifetime of health and happiness together!

Well.....lots of things! Shooting, editing, meeting with clients, blogging....Oh wait a minute...I haven't really been doing to good in that department....sorry, designing wedding albums etc. The biggest project I've been working on all winter (and part of spring) was building my mini studio! I do prefer to shoot most sessions on location either outdoors or in my clients homes. However I wanted a solution for when November rolls around and all the pretty leaves are gone and it's just not fun for the little ones to have their pictures taken outside anymore. This November I will have the perfect solution and it's ready to go. I thought I'd finally post you a few images from the sessions I've had thus far.
We started with just me and my girlfriends on a gno night. (I usually spend most monday nights with these three beautiful ladies)
Can I just tell you how handy a remote trigger for my camera is :)

Then I called on one of the happiest babies I know....Grady! (only he actually wasn't to happy that day, but we made the best of it)

Next I was up for the challenge of my very energetic and fun nephew Nicholas

My good friend Libby and I finally got to hang out and shoot for fun! She already has her images posted on her blog from our shoot. It's great to switch places and be in front of the camera and remember what my clients go through. (the more I photograph...the more self conscious I become with pictures of myself) I think she did a great job and I'm so excited for her to use her new lighting techniques with her clients. I was a fan of these two as soon as Nakeyia answered one of my first questions...."how did you two meet?" she replied...."at the community pool when we were 15." Hey there everyone! Well most of you know that winter months are the slow season for photographers. Believe it or not I have been extremely busy. Back in January I went to Pheonix for the PPA convention, Imaging USA! It was an amazing experience as I was able to see Anne Geddes speak along with many other amazing photographers. My grandmother lives in Peoria (which is right next to Pheonix) so I was able to stay with her and visit a bit as well. My grandmother is full of this positive energy that is contageous. While I was there....Andy flew in for a two days and we drove up to Sedona. It was so beautiful there. The whole trip was such a great experience for me. Since this trip I have been working on reorganizing my business and my personal home life as well...along with taking all the ideas and inspiration from the convention and rolling them into Photography by Faye Sommer. :) So don't worry...I"m still here and this blog is still alive. I am really going to make a better effort to keep blogging regularly! Hope you are all great and remember....spring is right around the corner :)

Ummm....so I planned to blog this evening, but I'm gonna just post letting u know that I was finishing up some dishes in the kitchen tonight and cut my right index finger. Right when I did it I thought "you idiot" It's like a visualized it right before it happened. Ever do that??? So I'm sorry folks no picts tonight. (I didn't think you'd appreciate a picture of my icky finger) That's all for now. Typing is kinda difficult.

My finger is healing up okay. I was worried at first that I might need stitches, but it stopped bleeding after about 30 minutes.

Okay I know, I know. I'll be the first to admidt that I don't really have an excuse for not blogging for FOREVER!!!!!! It's just that time of year and I've been doing anything and everything with photography, family and friends. So I thought it appropriate to give you this picture that shows I'm in the dog house!!!! I finally got to meet Katie and Matt after many e-mails back and fourth :) These two are so sweet together and they are both troopers as well. I think it was 40 degrees out the morning we had scheduled for their shoot! Luckily we did their session at Katie's mom's home and were able to go inside and warm up!

Good morning! I am currently sitting at my computer editing and doing all sorts of work. All of a sudden I start to hear a lot of commotion....maggie starts barking....then it gets louder and worse. Chain saws.....men yelling...my house sounds like it's under attack!!!!

I finally peek out my office window to see what's going on.....

It's all making sense now....our neighbors told us a few months back that they were going to have some of the trees in between our houses trimmed. Um.....aren't tree trimmers crazy???? He's up at lease 20 feet in the air, just kinda dangling from some roap and branches all the while HOLDING A LIVE CHAIN SAW!!!!

Anyway...just thought I'd share my "scary" morning with you! Be sure to check back at the end of the day.... 3 shoots to post! :)

I had he pleasure and the honor to photograph Brenda's first official family pictures. Luckily for me she is the queen of dressing her beautiful girls in the cutest clothes!!! I especially like their little red shoes! We worked around the outside of their house and then moved inside and let the girls put on their ballet skirts and dance to their daddy's guitar in the living room.....it doesn't get more darling then that! I woke up before the sun (before the time change) and made the drive to Ohio University for this session. What a gorgeous campus!!! I'm so glad that Lauren and Steve requested that we do their session there. These two met there their freshman year and now will be getting married next summer. I'm sure you can tell by the images how happy they are together when you look at their pictures. When I was in my car leaving I turned to check for traffic and there they were walking away hand in hand and just smiling at each other....enjoying being together. It made me smile!

Sorry for the lack of blog posts. It's not that I'm not busy or don't have plenty to show you, but I've been under the weather the past 4 days with a terrible head cold. :( But I did get a few sessions edited today while sitting up in bed with my laptop. WOW WOW WOW! I adore these two as we have been friends with Blake for...well a very very long time. They were married at the Grace United Methodist church and I've always wanted to shoot a wedding there. You know how kids are in candy stores??? That was me at this church. Everywhere you turned around was beautiful with amazing light.

Do you know how excited I was when Kimberly (one of my amazing brides and now I'm so pleased to call her a friend:) asked me to photograph her pets? Well you guessed it....I was VERY EXCITED being that I'm a huge animal lover and have a dog and a cat of my own! Daisy did a great job and I can't believe she laid her head down on the floor and that I had enough time to get myself down to her. Whiskers did a great job too. (considering most cat's DO NOT LIKE PEOPLE in their faces, especially with a big ol camera) Kimberly thanks so much!

I knew I was going to get along with this couple when I first returned Amanda's phone call. "What...I'm sorry I can't hear you that well" -A "Oh I'm sorry, is this not a good time? I can call you back later!?!" -F "No, I can talk, it's just kinda loud....I"m at the Bangles game!!!" -A

WHO DEY!!!!!!!!! I didn't much get into football until I went to my first Bangels game about 4 years ago. :) LOVE THEM!

Okay, back to the regular scheduled blogging....this wedding was such an amazing day, although Amanda was stressed w/ many complications w/ her dress the day before, her bridesmaids took care of all the finishing work for her. (I think they spent about an hour steaming her dress for her the day of the wedding) They were there for her every step of the way! NICE JOB LADIES! As far as Amanda, you would have never known she was so stressed the day before. She was glowing in her gown :) and Doug, not to shabby in his tux either! They really are such a beautiful couple! Thanks again you two! We had such a great time photographing on your wedding day!

I have had the pleasure of photographing these three beautiful girls for three years now. This was the first time we shot them all together and it was so much fun. They are always laughing and teasing each other and then a minute later be so supportive to one another. We started downtown w/ an urban fashion feel and then went more casual and cute in the sunflower field. Thank you so much ladies for a wonderful shoot! Can't wait till next time! Family Vacation.....FINALLY!

So you may remember a while back (okay back at the end of July, personal stuff gets pushed aside) that I was in Oregon with my family for vacation. My grandma Shirley lives in Pheonix year round, however the past five years she has been spending the summers in a little town on the coast of Oregon called Brookings. This year we all made it out there to visit and I LOVED IT!!!!! (well most of the immediate family plus family friends) This side of the family includes my dad, stepmom, her mom...aka grandma Shirley, my brother Chris (step if you wanna be technical) and his family, my brother Kevin and his wife (again step, but we just don't keep track of that) and finally my dad's best friends Pat and Bern.
The temperature on the coast up there is about 20 degrees cooler than if you are inland. Plus as you will see in the slide show, IT'S JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

What did we do while on vacationing there....I thought you'd never ask. We (Dad, Pat, Bern, Andy and I) actually flew into Medford Oregon and then made the 3 hour drive to Brookings. Andy and I decided the first evening to walk down to the beach and take some pictures and enjoy the sunset. I have to be honest that it was driving me CRAZY not being able to photograph a couple while in this gorgeous setting at such a beautiful time of day. So to my surprise Andy amused me and let me set up the camera on timer for a few "couple" shots. I'm so glad he did!!! I can't wait to make a canvas wrap of one of those for our house. :)
The next morning we got up and headed to a kite festival they have in town. That night more family rolled in. The next two mornings we got up early and we hunting for clams and found lots of starfish. It was really fun, even if we weren't very good at it. We did find a few and grilled them up...YUM! (the clams....not the starfish) In the evenings the boys fished right off the beach and caught a few. We visited a brandy distillery on my birthday and went on a jet boat river ride the next day. The last full day we were there we went to two different redwood forests. O M GOODNESS....I have never felt so small but at the same time so peaceful and safe. When I look at the pictures...I'm still amazed by their strength. Some of these trees have been around for 2-3,000 years!!!! Well here is a slideshow I made from our two cameras plus 3 point and shoots from my family. WARNING....my family (and myself) are pretty goofy, so feel free to laugh at some of these pictures. The picture at the end is one I did of my grandma out on the porch. Isn't she BEAUTIFUL! She'll be 86 this year and still gets up and goes. THANK YOU GRANDMA for taking such great care of us while we were out visiting you! WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

I was so honored when my good friend Lori from Finch Rental at the Dayton Bridal Connection asked me to photograph her daughter's wedding. Lori and Russ are kinda like a fourth set of parents to me!!! (your thinking...what, well there is my mom and step-dad who live 3 hours away, dad and step-mom also 3 hours away, my in-laws about 40 minutes away and then Lori and Russ) Lori is always there for me when I'm at the DBC if I'm stressed or have a business question and Russ is just one of those people that when you see him...you smile. He always greets me w/ such a big hug :) ...but this blog is about Sara and Michael....so on with the show!

Lori's beautiful daughter Sara married Michael a few weekends ago and it was such a fun day. They are such an easy going and sweet couple that they just belong together. We started the day with Kelly from www.cincimakeup.com. Michael at First Florist did an amazing job with the flowers....AS HE ALWAYS DOES!!!!! AJ from Party Pleasers provided the music along w/ lighting on the dance floor. Butterfly productions were the videographers and I can't wait to see their final product. Finch Rental provied most of the beautiful set up (of course). Finally Traci brought her chocolate fountain and at Sara's request filled it with pink chocolate. YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

This sweet couple is getting married next month and I am really looking forward to their wedding. Jessica LOVES Normandy Church (how could you not...it's gorgeous) so we decided to start their engagement session there just incase the weather won't allow us to make pictures outside the church on their wedding day. I love how Jessica has such a warm smile and then two seconds later she can glam it up for the camera with her beautiful serious look. Thanks again you two!
